Minister: Free responsible press milestone in Reform Project

Manama, Feb. 17: Information Affairs Minister, Ali bin Mohammed Al-Romaihi, has lauded the prevailing responsible press and media freedoms, being the a milestone in the democratic progress and human rights respect guaranteed under His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s pioneering comprehensive Reform Project.

While receiving the President of the Bahrain Journalists’ Association (BJA), Ahdeya Ahmed, Al-Romaihi highlighted the Information Affairs Ministry’s keenness to strengthen partnership with BJA to protect the rights of journalists and enable them to carry on their enlightening and awareness-raising mission professionally and objectively, in accordance with the Law and the Press Code of Ethics.

The minister congratulated BJA board members for their election, expressing pride in the success of a Bahraini woman in being elected BJA president since the association’s establishment.

He wished BJA board every success in expressing the aspirations of the press community and defending their rights to achieve the top interests of the nation and all the citizens.

BJA President expressed thanks and appreciation to the Information Minister for his support and encouragement, highlighting BJA’s interest in cooperating with the press and media institutions to protect the rights of journalists, and deepen their commitment to the professional and ethical standards.

She also expressed BJA’s keenness to enhance contacts with Arab and international press organisations to exchange expertise and honour the kingdom at regional and global media gatherings.
