As part of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman in the media field, the Ministry of Information organised a specialised technical seminar remotely, titled “Bahrain’s Experience in Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+).”
The seminar was presented by Abdullah Ahmed Al Baloushi, Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Information, and attended by specialists and engineers from Oman’s Ministry of Information.
The Assistant Undersecretary reviewed key milestones in Bahrain’s transition to digital radio broadcasting using DAB+, the latest third-generation radio broadcasting system. He highlighted the launch of advanced digital studios, the integration of digital broadcasting infrastructure, and the adoption of high-quality standards in audio content transmission. He also outlined the advantages of this technology in enhancing listener experience and keeping pace with technological developments in the media sector.
Abdullah Jamal, Head of the Radio Library at the Ministry of Information, also participated in the seminar, noting the main advantages of DAB+, including superior sound quality. He affirmed the importance of raising programme producers’ awareness of the new technology, integrating it with broadcasting automation systems such as the RCS system used at Bahrain Radio, and preparing the digital library to ensure effective data transmission.
He also highlighted the growing availability of modern receivers supporting DAB+, now integrated into home theatre systems and professional radio devices, enhancing the spread of the technology and providing a high-quality, reliable listening experience.
The seminar comes as part of the Ministry of Information’s ongoing efforts to share its expertise in digital transformation and to strengthen media partnerships with sisterly countries, contributing to the development of the media sector across GCC states.
