Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Al Noaimi, Information Minister, has unveiled the logo of the “Bahrain Capital of Arab Media 2024” during a ceremony held today at the Information Ministry’s Complex in Isa Town.
Heads and representatives of Arab diplomatic missions to Bahrain, members of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Journalists Association and editors-in-chief of local newspapers, in addition to Arab media personnel and journalists who are in Bahrain to cover the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2024, were present.
Dr. Al Noaimi indicated that the designation of Manama as the Capital of Arab Media for 2024 reflects Arab recognition of the pioneering regional and global status reached by Bahrain’s media sector at all levels thanks to the sound directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He added that the decision of the Arab Information Ministers Council, during its 53rd session, held in June 2023 in Rabat, Morocco, to name Manama as hosts of the prestigious Arab media event embodies Arab confidence in the kingdom’s media capabilities.
The decision also reflects Arab information ministers’ admiration for Bahrain’s keenness to deliver a balanced media message that adheres to professional ethics, preserves the authentic Arab and Islamic identity, as well as defends the just causes of the Arab Nation, he said.
Dr. Al Noaimi asserted that the wide-ranging media renaissance witnessed by the kingdom is the fruitful outcome of the prevailing atmosphere of freedoms and openness, guaranteed under HM the King’s comprehensive development process, which paved the way for the media to focus on all issues within a framework of national responsibility, consolidating the sector’s role towards society, and contributions to the kingdom’s sustainable development process.
He indicated that the logo of the event, which reads “This Is Bahrain… Manama Capital of Arab Media 2024”, with a microphone at the top, reflects the importance of the microphone, which is used in all media outlets, including social media.
He added that the choice of the “This Is Bahrain” phrase in the logo is reminiscent of the first words aired during the first radio transmission in Bahrain in 1940.
The same phrase, “This Is Bahrain”, was also the official logo of Radio Bahrain during its opening in 1955, he said, noting that it also refers to the name of the “Huna Al-Bahrain” magazine whose first issue was published in 1957, and the TV programmes produced under this name until now.
Dr. Al Noaimi affirmed that the Information Ministry had devised a comprehensive action plan including a variety of initiatives, activities and events throughout the year 2024, commensurate with the importance of the event, adding that all potentials will be harnessed to ensure its success, which will confirm the kingdom’s leadership in the media field, as well as its vital role at the Arab and international levels.
The Information Minister stressed that in 2024, Bahrain will be a distinguished Arab media destination, as it will host a variety of events that tackle the future of Arab media, media production in light of modern technological developments, the spread of digital media and artificial intelligence, in addition to ways to develop Arab media competencies and qualify them to be more capable of dealing with present and future challenges.
Dr. Al Noaimi underlined the importance of the “Manama Capital of Arab Media 2024” in providing opportunities to promote Bahrain’s civilisational image, highlight its wide-ranging development achievements, shed light on the wise policies it is adopting, under HM the King’s leadership, to foster the values of peace and human coexistence, as well as showcase its distinguished media and organisational capabilities.
He pointed out that celebrating Manama as the Capital of Arab Media 2024, and the kingdom’s hosting of the 33rd Arab Summit will place Bahrain at the heart of attention, which requires holding activities and programmes that match the importance of major Arab media events, in a way that would bring about a quantum leap in joint Arab action in all fields, including media.
Dr. Ramzan Al Noaimi indicated that the Information Ministry and the relevant government and private entities will work as one team to ensure that the Arab media year will be more distinguished, and make Manama an Arab media beacon.
He extended sincere appreciation to the Secretariat General of the Arab League and the Council of Arab Information Ministers for their designation of Manama as the Capital of Arab Media 2024, praising their continuous support and coordination with the Information Ministry to ensure the success of the pan-Arab media event. He called on media personnel, journalist and the public to participate actively in the event and enrich it with their valuable ideas and experiences.
The Information Minister and the attendees toured the main studio of the Bahrain TV News Centre and the private radio channels building, where they took stock of the equipment and technology used there.
They expressed admiration for the cutting-edge technology used in the studios, lauding the distinguished level reached by the media sector in the kingdom.
