Information Ministry Undersecretary participates in Permanent Committee for Arab Media meeting

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, Dr. Abdulrahman Mohammed Bahar, took part in the 97th session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media which convened at the Arab League Secretariat General headquarters, in Cairo.

The meeting was held in conjunction and preparation for the 52nd session of the Arab Information Ministers’ Council held from September 20 to 22.

In a statement marking the occasion, the Information Ministry Undersecretary affirmed the importance of the issues discussed by the committee which will chart the framework of Arab cooperation in the media field and boost joint coordination regarding issues of common interest. He pointed out that the meetings of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media represent a significant opportunity to assess the reality of Arab media and explore future prospects, especially amid the current challenges. He noted the need for the Arab media to play a bigger role in supporting the sustainable development efforts in the Arab countries and raising social awareness in this regard. He also noted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to back the efforts aimed at upgrading the Arab media system.

The meeting spotlighted a number of issues including activating the goals of the Arab media strategy 2022-2026, the role of the media in countering terrorism and extremism, the Arab media map for sustainable development 2030, the Arab Media Excellence Award, which is granted every year marking the Arab Media Day.

A proposal to include the media education subject in the school curricula in all stages in the member states was also discussed. The proposal was initiated by the Kingdom of Bahrain in a previous session of the committee.
