Isa Award reflects Bahrain’s commitment to humanitarian work, says Information Minister

The Isa Award for Service to Humanity, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, reflects Bahrain’s support to humanitarian values, said Information Minister Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Alnoaimi.

He noted that the award was named after late HM Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, to commemorate his legacy and national achievements which marked the history of Bahrain.

He hailed the award as one of the fruits of the comprehensive development, led by HM the King, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Dr. Alnoaimi made the remarks as he met representatives of the regional and international media, on the eve of the the ceremony which will be held on Tuesday at the Isa Cultural Centre during which the prize will be handed over to Nepalese ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit.

He hailed the humanitarian story of Dr. Sanduk Ruit, who is world-famous for devising a new method for treating cataracts and developing a new lens implanted inside the eyeball that could be produced at a much cheaper price than its counterparts.

He praised HM the King’s vision which set a global model to emulate, by emphasizing the human spirit and inclusive humanity despite cultural, regional and religious differences.

Addressing the media, the minister highlighted Bahrain’s commitment as an advocate of peace in the world.

He conveyed greetings from His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Special Representative of His Majesty the King, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity to Bahrain’s guests.

He stressed the importance of such events which receive media attention, noting that Kingdom of Bahrain welcomes meaningful media coverage that highlights the honorable efforts that serve humanity.

He said that the fifth edition honors Dr. Sanduk Ruit whose creative invention benefited thousands of people who have lost their sight and helped reduced the cost of treatment.
