Manama, Nov. 4 (BNA): Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), President of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), the fourth Bahrain Theatre Festival began tonight.
The event, organised by the Bahrain Theatre Union, was attended by Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Al Noaimi, Minister of Information.
Dr. Al Noaimi said that this edition of the festival comes in an exceptional year marking the centenary of Bahraini theatre. He highlighted the distinguished status of theatre in Bahrain, its leading role in reinforcing cultural and human values, and showcasing Bahraini creativity over a rich century-long journey.
The Information Minister expressed appreciation for the high-level support and interest in the cultural scene from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which have helped enhance the conducive environment for creativity in various disciplines of art and culture.
The Minister also highlighted the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad for the festival, demonstrating the support for encouraging the national theatrical and artistic movement and supporting promising Bahraini talents.
Dr. Al Noaimi expressed pride in the quality of the performances delivered by Bahraini creators in various theatrical genres, which demonstrate the spirit of creativity and Bahrain’s distinguished artistic talent that have contributed to Bahraini theatre. He also commended the festival’s recognition of leading figures in Bahraini theatre who have enriched the theatrical scene with their contributions throughout their artistic careers.
